targets for 2010 – march update

On new year’s day I posted my targets for 2010.  Here’s this month’s update:

  • Finish repair and decoration of the house - Nope
  • Move house - Now decided to rent out our house.  Still looking at new houses
  • Achieve CCIP (Cisco Certified Internetworks Expert) certification - No progress
  • Become an accomplished CCNA (CC Network Associate) instructor - Have sadly had to abandon this one due to other commitments (more on that later)
  • Stay fit - Not doing a massive amount, but am still playing football.  Need to get the running shoes on
  • Stop biting my nails - Done
  • Run two 5k races and another 10k race (hopefully with my pal Chris) - 10k booked for July, no news from Chris….
  • See 6 London shows (at least one every couple of months) - Weekend in London planned for Easter, will definitely take in a show

I’ve not gotten around to the CCIP studying yet which I’m a bit disappointed about, but I have good reason.  It’s no longer practical for me to take the week off work for it, and we’ve spent a fair amount of time in appointments for financial advice and looking at houses on the web.  Plus we had my niece stay recently.  All of this has meant not much free time for studying.  I need to get a shift on unless I want to sit an extra exam (which sadly seems inevitable as it’s a bit of a push to do 3 exams in the time alloted) as Cisco have just revised their routing exam, core to the CCIP.  I’m not certain what this means but likely that my BSCI won’t be valid for the CCIP. :(

I’ve sadly had to give up the teaching for now because it was taking its toll on me – studying up for it every night of the week and 14 hours out of the house on a Saturday with a 5:30am start was a bit tough.  Hopefully when we live closer to London I’ll be able to give it another shot.

We’ve just been to visit friends this last weekend, and are off to meet some folks from our holiday this coming weekend, when we plan on doing some London tourist type stuff.  Not a show exactly, but a good trip whatever the weather.

targets for 2010 – february update

On new year’s day I posted my targets for 2010.  Here’s an update:

  • Finish repair and decoration of the house - Nope
  • Move house – House valued by two different agencies, several houses looked at
  • Achieve CCIP (Cisco Certified Internetworks Expert) certification – No progress
  • Become an accomplished CCNA (CC Network Associate) instructor – Teaching first course later this month
  • Stay fit – Hmmm.  Still playing football….
  • Stop biting my nails – Done
  • Run two 5k races and another 10k race (hopefully with my pal Chris) - Chris should be booking for March
  • See 6 London shows (at least one every couple of months) – Saw comedy, but no shows as yet

As you can see, progress is slow, but I’ll get there.  I plan to take a week off soon so that I can study for the BGP exam for CCIP, and we should be off to see a show later this month for my birthday.  If Chris gets his act together and signs us up for the race I’ll get out running too, and moving house isn’t going to be a quick thing, but we are making strides.

I’ll keep updating until I’ve done everything!

targets for 2010

Not new year’s resolutions because they are so last year, and I think they are tainted with a stigma which means that no-one really expects you to follow through with them. But I do have targets. I’m thinking that if I list them here where they can be viewed forever, and if I publish an update every month as to my progress, I might actually think about trying to achieve them. Probably rubbish, but it’s worth a punt. Here goes:

  • Finish repair and decoration of the house
  • Move house
  • Achieve CCIP (Cisco Certified Internetworks Expert) certification
  • Become an accomplished CCNA (CC Network Associate) instructor
  • Stay fit
  • Stop biting my nails
  • Run two 5k races and another 10k race (hopefully with my pal Chris)
  • See 6 London shows (at least one every couple of months)

I’m not going to beat myself up if I don’t meet them or things change, so let’s see how I get on with it. I might also update the list too, as I’m sure there are more things I want to do than that.
